Hillsborough Golf Club Local Rules

LOCAL RULES

Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)

Out of bounds is defined as beyond the line between the course-side points at ground level of white stakes or white stones including but not limited to, those to the left of holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10. Out of bounds is also defined by all boundary walls and fences.

The clubhouse, car park, practice putting green, professional’s shop and the concrete paths (including that behind the green at hole 18) and patio areas surrounding them the same are out of bounds. These are defined by the course side edge of white chains and/or white lines.

Penalty Areas (Rule 17)

The outside edge of red and yellow stakes or red and yellow lines define the margins of a penalty area.

The red penalty areas on holes 9 and 10 extend to and coincide with the out of bounds edge.

The ditch to the right of hole 14 is a red penalty area. A player may only take lateral relief on the right side of the ditch if it is known or virtually certain that the player’s ball last entered the penalty area from the right side of the ditch. Line and distance relief from the ditch when playing hole 14 is likely to be no closer to the hole than a point in line with and to the right of the bank in front of the 14th tee.

No Play Zones

Ground under repair identified by white lines and/or blue stakes and/or otherwise clearly identified as such and young trees identified by stakes are no play zones and if a player’s ball lies on the course other than in a penalty area and it lies on or touches GUR or such a tree or GUR or such a tree interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing, the player must take relief under Rule 16.1f.

Integral Parts of the Course

All artificially surfaced roads and paths including those covered with wood chippings and immovable obstructions and relief may be taken under Rule 16.1b. The same relief may be taken from shelters on the course.

All walls and natural paths are integral parts of the course and relief may only be taken under Rule 19 (unplayable ball).

Temporary Local Rules

Temporary local rules such as those relating to winter play, drop zones or temporary no play areas are posted outside the locker rooms. It is a player’s responsibility to be aware of these temporary rules and to observe the same.
